  • Mambourin Enterprises

Mambourin Enterprises Inc. has been supporting people with disabilities since 1975. Key dates in Mambourin's history are here.

Mambourin promotes independent living by offering employment, education and training services to adults with a disability.

Mambourin operates in accordance with the principles specified in the Disability Act (2006) [Easy Read Information about the Disability Act can be found here], the Disability Services Act (1986) and the Disability Discrimination Act (1992). Of course there is lots of other legislation that we are bound by too.

Mambourin's slogan is "Empowering People" which drives all that we do. Some examples are:

    • helping people with disabilities to be valued and valuable members of our community by creating opportunities for regular employment, to achieve a more independent future, and to enhance their self-esteem
    • making substantial and on-going investment in the professional development of our staff to ensure that we have the best and brightest in the sector, and
    • supporting families through respite and planning processes to ensure that their needs are also being met and they feel supported.

Mambourin provides Day Services to nearly 200 people and employment programs serve around 60 people. Mambourin operates at many sites located throughout the western region of Melbourne.

    Our aims are to:

    • manage and maintain services for the education, employment, training and support of people with disabilities.
    • co-operate with government in providing appropriate facilities and services for people with disabilities.
    • provide community based resources for people with disabilities and their families, guardians or caregivers.
    • maximise the potential skill of people with disabilities to live independently in the community.
    • assist people with disabilities and their parents and guardians who are in necessitous circumstances.
    • educate the general public to a greater understanding of the rights and needs of people with disabilities.
    • encourage self advocacy and to advocate on behalf of each Service Recipient to ensure community involvement.

Mambourin is governed by a Board of Directors which is made up of interested community members. The Board has a Board Charter and a more detailed set of Governance Policies. Mambourin's Board meets monthly. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) attends, and reports to, Board meetings. Other managers attend from time to time as the need arises. There is also opportunity for staff to raise issues and Service Recipients also have direct access to the Board.

The Board delegates day-to-day management of the organisation to a CEO and an Executive management team.

A permanent invitation is extended to all to email, telephone or call into Mambourin to discuss any issue.
