Traineeships: learning beyond the classroom

Starting a school-based traineeship at Mambourin opened the world of work up for Tijreese. In a short space of time he went from being disengaged in school to actively working towards his employment goals.

Tijreese’s mum Kerry noticed a huge change in him outside of school too.

‘His confidence has reached a whole new level and he is starting to socialise so much more with his peers and family members.’

As part of his Certificate II in Warehouse Operations, Tijreese had the opportunity to work in our Business Solutions warehouse and get real hands-on workplace experience alongside our other employees. Building positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors in our warehouse plays a significant role in the success of our trainees moving into further studies and employment.

‘Tijreese is extremely proud of his achievements and could not stop smiling whilst telling us that he was asked to work over at the adult warehouse … this has been Tijreese’s goal all along, that he would be offered full time employment on completion of his traineeship,’ Kerry said.

When asked what he enjoys the most about his traineeship, Tijreese said he liked everything – but especially the recycling we do for Sustainable Salons.

Tijreese has just been accepted into the Certificate III in Warehouse Operations program for 2020 and also has ambitions to get his forklift licence.

Congratulations Tijreese – keep up the great work!
