On Sunday 5th March the Ocean Grove division of the Disabled Surfers Association (DSA) of Australia is giving people with disability a chance to feel the rush of catching a wave.

To get involved all you need do is head to Ocean Grove Main Beach (surfing starts at 9am).

Available on the day will be:
– Special needs changing/amenities
– Wheelchair ramp access from the car-park all the way to the sand
– Specialised beach wheelchairs (to suit adults and children)

Mambourin has its own surf crew heading there, so make sure you come say hello! Just look out for our flags.

Just so you know: specialised beach wheelchairs are available for use along the Bellarine and Surf coast free of charge by the community at any time by arrangement. This enables a person with special needs to experience the beach at any time with family and friends all year round.

On the 14th of August 2015, we were delighted to host a visit from the Victorian State Treasurer and member for Werribee Tim Pallas and Parliamentary Secretary for Carers and Volunteers Gabrielle Williams.

Tim and Gabrielle toured our Werribee site, visiting various programs and activities and meeting lots of participants, before walking through our Mambourin Sensory Gardens to visit our Secure Document Destruction service in action.

Their visit concluded with a morning tea in Ison House with a group of participants, including our marvellous Movie Makers group, who made a video to celebrate the occasion. You can view this video here. Both the Treasurer and Parliamentary Secretary were very impressed with what they saw. High praise indeed!

If you would like to visit Mambourin to learn more about the high quality services that we offer, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 1300 EMPOWER (1300 367 693) or contact@mambourin.org and we would be only too happy to talk with you.

Bye for now!
