Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your community? Do you want to use your knowledge and skills to drive change for people with disability?
We’re looking for a compassionate and dedicated individual with lived experience of disability to join our board. As a board member, you will help shape our organisation, and advocate for the people we support. This role succeeds Les Chitts, a parent of one of our community members, who stepped down from the Mambourin board in April.
Les’s history and experience within the disability sector has been enormous and influential. When Les and his wife had their son who has a disability, they realised that the supports they would need as time went on were lacking. Les knew that to see change, he would need to be involved in improving opportunities for his son, as well as other people with disabilities and their families in the community.
Les was the driving force in establishing ‘Dads To Dads’, a volunteer community group that aimed to bring fathers of children with disability together. He was also a member of the City of Melton’s ‘Disability Advisory Committee’ for three years, a volunteer board member at Merrimu Disability Services, and a board member for Mambourin between the years 2017 to 2023.
During his time as a Mambourin board member, Les’s skills, background, knowledge and lived experience of disability saw him providing a real and lasting difference to the strength and quality of governance within the organisation. He strove to ensure that the needs of people with disabilities and their families and carers were always considered first and foremost in every decision the board made.

Join our board!
We’re looking for someone with lived experience of disability to join our board of directors.
For example, you could be someone who lives with disability, a parent or carer of a person with disability, or have experience in the disability sector.
The process
- Email Company Secretary to express your interest by 29 September 2023.
- We will then send you a meeting calendar, some information about what’s involved in being on the board and instructions on how to apply.
- Submit your application.
- New board members will be endorsed by the board in October or voted in at an election at our Annual General Meeting in November 2023.
